Slingshot Dakota is a pop punk band made up of a husband and wife who have been performing together for over a decade and still maintain the dream of making it in the business. Performing on a variety of stages from tiny clubs to large festivals, they promote a message of positivity, equality and love through their relatable lyrics and loud, energetic shows. With the music industry’s economy floundering as consumers are choosing free streaming over buying albums, fewer artists are able to reach a level of financial sustainability the way many had even ten years ago. This on-going series examines whether a couple’s devotion to their lives together in music, while touring and recording a new album, is enough to propel them out of a crowded field into a stronger place within a weakening music industry.
